Blood Drive
Just as in human medicine, blood transfusions may sometimes
be needed in order to save the lives of our pets. There is currently
a great need for both canine and feline blood donors. Through the organization
of annual blood drives, we have been able to help identify eligible
canine blood donors, and ensure the availability of transfusible blood
and blood components. We had over 30 donors at our first blood drive.
The donated blood will help to save many lives. A special thank you
goes out to all those who participated. If you are interested in having your dog be a donor
and helping to save lives, they have to be at least 50 lbs and 7 years
of age or under, and in good health. In return, your dog will receive
a comprehensive blood work-up and a physical exam. Please contact our
head veterinary assistant, Angela, and schedule an appointment during
the blood drive.
We would like again to express
our thanks for to those who participated, it was a great sucess.

Maba Expo
Educating the public on preventive health care is an
important part of our community service efforts.
Our demo animals were a hit!

People, Pets and Vets
People, Pets and Vets is an annual, hands-on educational event where local veterinarians join with the "Science Fun Day" at. This year, it was held in March at the Chippewa Middle School in Okemos. Each year, more and more children and their parents come to PP&V to meet and talk to veterinarians and learn about proper pet care. They can see and touch companion animals, unusual pets and exotics. They also learn about police dogs, assistance animals, veterinary career opportunities and veterinary specialties. The team at Red Cedar Animal Hospital has been in charge of the Geriatric Medicine booth.
This next People, Pets and Vets will be held 3/4/06 at the Chippewa Middle School in Okemos.

P-PETs (People and Pets exercising together)
P-Pets is a program originated in cooperation with Hill’s pet food. A study was initiated in Chicago to evaluate whether people who needed to lose weight would stick to an exercise program better if accompanied by their dogs.
We invite you to join the Red Cedar Animal Hospital version of P-Pets, with the goal of helping your pet reach their optimal weight and thereby live a longer, healthier life. We meet every 2 weeks to check your pet’s weight, discuss nutrition and conduct a group physical activity. We have found that pets started on prescription weight loss food more easily accomplish their goals. We have rebates and coupons available for these foods.
Give us a call if you’re interested, and ask for Diana. The more the merrier!
Community Service
Pet overpopulation has led to increasing numbers of animals
being euthanized at shelters. By helping neuter shelter animals, they
become more adoptable and make better pets. We are happy to donate our
time and services in neutering shelter pets to make them more "adoptable".
Maggie's Gift
"Maggie's Gift" is a fund established to assist patients
brought in by Good Samaritans or whose families may not be able to provide
financially for emergency or life-saving procedures. A portion of our
euthanasia fee is donated to this fund in memory of the patients we've
lost. "Maggie's Gift" was established after the passing of
Maggie, a very special older dog (pictured on our Home page) who found
her way into all of our hearts. Contributions to "Maggie's Gift"
are always welcome and appreciated.
Recycling
At Red Cedar Animal Hospital we don't only care for animals, we care
for the environment as well. We are proud to be a business that recycles
Hurricane Pet Relief Efforts
Nail Trim Drive

In an effort to support MSU’s veterinary trip to the gulf coast we organized a nail trim drive to help raise money and provide donations of supplies needed to care for the pet’s effected by Hurricane Katrina. We were over whelmed with the generosity of fellow animal lovers in the area and are proud to say we raised over $2,000 in just three days! $850 dollars of the donated amount will go to SCAVMA and will be matched by MSU and the AVMA totaling $5,400 in contributions. In addition to the financial contributions we received an amazing amount of supply donations including, medicine, medical supplies, food, cat litter and treats! We would like to thank all who participated.
If you would like to contribute to the Hurricane Relief effort we invite you to visit the AHAA link on our website to learn more about efforts being made to rescue four legged Hurricane victims!
